Prof. Leszek Antoni Kosiński passed away
Prof. Leszek Antoni Kosiński (1929-2024)
On December 6, 2024, at the age of 95, Prof. Leszek Antoni Kosiński, a highly distinguished Polish and Canadian geographer, passed away. He was laid to rest at the cemetery in Podkowa Leśna in Poland.
Throughout his remarkably rich professional career, beginning in the 1950s, Professor Kosiński was a participant and observer of the most significant developments in Polish and global geography, as well as in the broader fields of natural and social sciences.
On May 31, 1963, he was appointed as the editorial secretary of Geographia Polonica and held this position during its first publication year (1964). He remained on the editorial committee until 1968, when he emigrated to Canada.
We recall, in both English and Polish, an interview Professor Kosiński gave to our journal in 2014, in which he shared his memories and reflections on the pathways of geography's development, particularly during the latter half of the 20th century. These years were pivotal for the growth of the discipline, and in Poland, they marked a period of its greatest achievements on the international stage—due in no small part to Professor Kosiński’s significant contributions and personal dedication.
